Creative Game Concept and Initial Discussion.

We were given a selection of books to use as concept ideas for a game development project.
  • Dr Seuss Cat in the Hat
  • 1000 Years of Irish Poetry (apparently their poems are very long)
  • Surviving the Swastika
  • Modern Guerilla Warfare
  • Death of Tinker Bell
  • Stepping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost (an author who believed in using half of his poem as the title)
So we appear to have decided on making a game set in World War II Nazi Germany where a cat is giving a mission by his dying girl friend (who is the pet of a Nazi Scientist) named Tinker Bell to take secret information to the Irish Allies.

Phase one is making it out of the Nazi city urban environment where you have to avoid German Shepherds with Nazi arm bands. Phase two is making it through a snowy forest and avoiding wolves to make it to a tied up boat where you begin Phase three crossing the British Channel and avoiding getting wet (you're a cat and hate water) and German U Boats manned by dachchunds. I believe we are going to call it some form of The Furred Reich.

I think it may look good with a limited pallet imitating either a Dr Seuss art style or WW2 news reel style. The game play is more of scrolling flat 2d like Legend of Zelda or Mario Brothers. When you collide with another animal a dialogue screen pops up with the animals now being anthromorphic (they're normal looking animals in the scrolling game movement screen) and wearing clothes.
